A2 PowerPoint Poster Template for SoberIT Projects

You can download the templates from here [zip] and view them as PDF: poster 1 poster 2

Poster 1 is better to use if you also want to use A1 posters at the same time. Poster 1 of A2 size and the A1 posters both have the TKK logo on the top right of the poster. Poster2 of A2 size has the TKK logo on the top left side, for no particular reason. Only use the poster2 if you really want TKK logo on the left, for some reason or other...

These templates can be used if you want to produce a poster of A2 size (500x700 mm). Posters using these templates have already been used by Qure, SEMS, Sarcous and VeTO for the 2002 European Software Quality Conference.

Some general tips

Just download the template and edit it using PowerPoint. Insert the text you want and any pictures, graphics, charts, tables etc...

Keep in mind that the less text you use in the poster the better. People are not going to stand in front of your poster and read it unless they are really interested. They're also not going to stand more than 5 minutes in front of it to read it. Keep your message clear and straight to the point. Less is definitely more when it comes to posters. I would suggest a maximum maximum MAXIMUM of 800 characters (and that's already way too much, but if you have no charts nor pictures, then it's ok)!

Remember:
Do not crowd your poster!
Clarity is much enchanted by careful design and labelling of the figures, and can be further improved by clear colour coding.
Mixed upper and lower case is recommended to facilitate readability.

How to use the template

When you think that you are done inserting the information you want into this template then send it to Joanna. She'll edit it if it needs additional editing and will convert it to PDF and send it to the print shop. If you need help while doing the poster (page layout, graphics, photos...) please contact Joanna. Keep in mind though that if you need to have a picture taken by Joanna (or by someone else), for the poster, contact her well in advance (some 4 weeks before the due date). Also, please remember that she has to send the poster to the print shop at least 2 days before the day you need to have it (problems always happen with the printing process: printers always break down, print shop people always get sick and so on...)

These A2 sized posters should be converted to PDF before being sent to the printer. Do check that the size is set to 500x700 mm for the conversion (the margins are set to 0) and that the resolution is set to a maximum (600dpi). If you you're not sure about all that, just send Joanna the PowerPoint file and she'll convert it to PDF.

It's better though to contact Joanna  before using this template and definitely before having the poster printed.

Pricing

We have mostly used Multiprint's services (different branches around Helsinki - the most convenient for me personally is at Uudenmaankatu. Their service is OK, but one has to continuously call them to make sure that someone is working on the posters. But Valpuri (?) and Seppo are very helpful. Their quality is very good. The price for one A2 colored poster is around 18 euros. They also charge 11 euros for opening the files.

Jukka Borgman has used the services of SOKONET (in Olari - http://www.sokonet.fi). I am not sure how much they charge for A2 posters, but their price for A1 posters was 4 euros less than Multiprint. I haven't checked the quality though.
