Osaamistavoitteet: Kurssin käytyään opiskelija osaa: a) vastata kysymykseen: mihin eri aihealueisiin liittyvät tiedot luovat pohjan käyttökontekstin määrittämiselle ja käyttöliittymäsuunnittelulle, b) perustella, miksi käyttökontekstin määrittäminen on tärkeää vuorovaikutteisia käyttöliittymiä suunniteltaessa, c) kuvailla käyttäjän ja tuotteen vuorovaikutusta ja sen etenemistä, d) kuvailla ihmistä tiedonkäsittelijänä, e) hyödyntää kurssin tietoja käyttöliittymäsuunnittelussa: hahmotella käyttöliittymän ja perustella suunnitteluratkaisuja, f) raportoida tekemäänsä työtä ja sen tuloksia, ja g) tehdä vertaisarviointia toisen opiskelijan työlle ja antaa työstä kirjallista palautetta.

Sisältö: Kurssilla käsiteltäviä teema-alueita: käyttökonteksti suunnittelun lähtökohtana, käyttäjä osana käyttäjäkeskeistä suunnittelua, ihmisen toimita vuorovaikutuksessa tuotteen kanssa, tiedon visualisoinnin perusteet.

Learning Outcomes: After completing the course, students are able to develop an interactive user interface that can be used for usability testing. Students know how to use user-centred principles, guidelines and patterns in the design and implementation of the user interface.

Content: The design and construction of user interfaces. Use of basic user interface elements and style guides.

T-121.5350 Strategic User-Centred Design L (9 cr)

Learning Outcomes: In this course you learn the basics both of the users’ cognitive and psychological skills and the business potential of good usability. You will be convinced of the necessity to use that knowledge to direct user-centred design. After you have taken this course you know how to gather user data and analyse it to produce relevant user knowledge. You can utilize the gained understanding to generate ideas for new product concepts and apply suitable visualization and evaluation methods to build and assess the created products.

Content: The course applies a user-centred product development process starting from users’ cognitive abilities and the strategic business conditions set to the project. Using user research methods an understanding is created of the users, the relevant design problem and its context. Produced new product concepts are given a concrete form and they are validated with real users in order to reliably define the necessary future steps.

T-121.5450 Interaction Design and Evaluation L (8 cr)

Teaching period: IV

Learning Outcomes: After the course, you should be able to select suitable usability evaluation methods in various situations, and to argument your choices, as well as the findings of the evaluations. You are able to design and carry out usability evaluations and to construct a new user interface or a prototype of the system so well that it suits for user testing.

Content: This course gives deeper understanding of the usability evaluation methods studied on literature in the prerequisite courses. The methods are applied to project works conducted in cooperation with companies in groups of 3-5 students. Some new methods are also presented, as well as variations of the basic methods. The project work also includes the construction of the user interface to reflect the improvements based on the findings of the evaluations.
