Responsible Teachers

Professor Juha Laine

The Venturing in Digital Economy (VDE) major and minor provide the students with in-depth knowledge and practical competence in creating new and changing the old businesses for the dynamic Digital Economy. With Digital Economy we refer to the new economic conditions resulting from the convergence of information technology, telecommunications, and content and media industries. The VDE major and minor focus on strategic and technological aspects of developing and starting new Digital Economy ventures that capitalize on opportunities arising from this convergence.

The strategy-oriented courses of the major and minor provide a general view on strategy, technology management, and new venture development with a special emphasis on digital media and content, information technology, and communication technology industries. The courses dealing with technological issues provide the necessary knowledge and understanding of the underlying technologies, architectures, and product development in the Digital Economy.

The VDE major is organized in close cooperation with leading companies in Digital Economy industry sectors. Courses will be co-organized and assignments will be conducted in leading companies operating in this dynamic sector.

Students choosing the VDE as their major or minor will be trained to become entrepreneurial leaders in the Digital Economy. We expect the graduates to either start their own Digital Economy venture or take up managerial positions in Digital Economy ventures and established companies. VDE major and minor are restricted, and students must apply for them separately. For more information about applying etc., please see http://www.soberit.hut.fi/ suomi/Studies.html.
